Montmiral News
Hi there all students and welcome to our Blog! We will keep you updated on all the information you need to know about our movements both in France and UK.
Firstly we had a wonderful year 2011 at Atelier Montmiral once again. Nearly all our art courses were filled to capacity, and we sadly had to turn people away on our August ten day course which proved to be extremely popular.
We had a lot of Australian students this year which was exciting and rewarding, some of whom worked with us as part of their degree course and will return again next year. This seems to be a growing trend that many students worldwide are coming to us for extra curricular creative input as part of their college studies.
Our returner rate is as always around 30-40% which we feel is a great compliment but gives us the opportunity to develop work with students over a long period of time.
Many of our students are now pursuing a career in art – look at our student gallery to see their work:
Pam Heaton from South Africa is one of our students who first came to us in 2006 – she has made extraordinary progress not only in printmaking but also painting (gallery 2006-2011).
Georgie Gubbins first came to us in 2007 to explore ideas in printmaking and has just launched her illustrated Bestiary book in English and Chilean this autumn with terrific success. She is now starting another on strange cactii (gallery 2007-2011).
Viola Shackleton first came to us in 2006 and built up her portfolio so as to apply for Foundation college. She initially went to St Martins in London and now is in her second year at the Royal School of Needlework (gallery 2007-2008).
Jenny Dupont has been coming to us since 2008 and is currently doing a part time degree in Adelaide, Australia. The work she did at the school in 2011 (see gallery) was accredited as part of her degree coursework.
Emma Rawson came to us to do painting in 2009 and is now part way through an MA in glass at Farnham, Surrey (gallery 2009).
Susan May and Andy Kindler have been coming to us since 2007. Susan won an award at the Princes Drawing School for a watercolour done at the school in 2007 and continues to do the most wonderful drawings. Andy has just had an exhibition of his very fine and sleek Chine Colle prints in the Pop Up gallery N16 London (gallery 2007-2011).
Marti Schmidt first came to us in 2007 to explore printmaking and now has bought her own press in her studio in Florida – check out her website www.martischmidt.com and gallery (2007 -2009)
Jay Gallagher was one of our very first students and actually braved it ALONE with us in 2005! It has been rewarding to see the steady improvement in his work over the years not least his accomplished self-portraits achieved last summer (gallery 2005 -2011).
Rachel Landau came for her third year last summer with Felicia Bromfield and Kate Harrington for their second time. Their work has made extraordinary strides since their first struggle with landscape in oils in 2008 (gallery 2009 – 2011).
