ART COURSE
BEGINNERS
Whatever your area of interest might be, we offer a basic course in drawing, painting and printmaking, which might include points of focus such as:
Learning to record from direct observation using a variety of drawing materials such as pencil, ink and charcoal.
Investigating the basic principles of constructing an image through drawing and painting. Incorporating composition, line, tone and form.
Learning to use colour by exploring colour relationships in painting. Understanding basic colour mixing and creative use of colour.

Simple printmaking through introduction to drypoint, lino, monoprint and screenprint. Broadening creative skills through new techniques and materials.

MORE EXPERIENCED
Specific areas of practice may be approached in greater depth according to the needs and demands of each individual, and might include points of focus such as:
Combined image making – exploring a multi-media approach through paint, collage and print.

Use of colour and light through landscape
Examining the effects of harmonious and discordant colour.
Image construction and composition in printmaking
Inventive ways of interpreting ideas and imagery.
Using a camera as a sketchbook
Learning how to use a camera creatively as a third eye.
Practising artists often prefer to focus on their own areas of interest, using the facilities together with technical/critical advice as and when required, and a more specialised art course may be tailored so as to investigate a particular aspect of drawing, painting or printmaking.
MATERIALS
A basic range of materials are provided on the art course – some drawing materials, paints, printing inks and papers. However, students are advised to bring their own more specialist materials. Canvas and hand made papers can be purchased from the Atelier and there are several art shops in nearby Gaillac.
